Let Her Sing® 2023: A Celebration of Female Voices

For the seventh year running, more than a dozen talented female vocalists once again grace dthe stage of Diaspora Arts Connection’s “Let Her Sing®: A Celebration of Female Voices” in a magnificent display of talent and solidarity on Saturday, September 23rd in San Francisco and September 24 at Schoenberg Hall in UCLA. The artists came together for a unique and diverse showcase of different artistic styles and genres. Let Her Sing is an event dedicated to fostering support and raising awareness for the female voice, banned and suppressed in parts of the world even today.

On the first anniversary of the Woman.Life.Freedom movement in Iran and two years after the return of Taliban to power in Afghanistan, our talented vocalists raised their voices to defend women’s right to self-expression. This year’s lineup featured (in alphabetical order): Elaha Sorooor, Emma, Emel Mathluthi, Farah Siraj, Hani Kian, Mandana Khazraei, Sakina Teyna, Sanam Maroufkhani, and The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir.

We were proud to welcome back our amazing house band under our Musical Director Yahya Alkhansa featuring Asaf Ophir (wind instruments), Bahar Badiee (oud), Josh Melinger (percussion), Mohammad Talani (guitar), Niloufar Shiri (kamancheh), Nima Hafezieh (keyboard), Narges Jajarmi (accordion), Safa Shokrai (bass) and Yahya Alkhansa (drums).

Once again Navid Ghaem Maghami was our Art Director and Sarah Chang Tadayon was the Master of Ceremonies.
