Impossible Stage

The idea of Impossible Stage™ was first realized in 2022, when Diaspora Arts Connection, in collaboration with Freight & Salvage and Persian Center, presented a one-time musical event under that name. Sixteen extraordinary musicians and vocalists, directed by Vienna-based composer and instrumentalist Mahan Mirarab, came together to perform reimagined folk songs from Iran and Afghanistan, blending microtonal maqams with jazz, rock, and other Western influences. The result was a dazzling, unforgettable evening of music and community.

Now, with the good fortune of having temporary access to 2033 University Avenue in Berkeley, Impossible Stage has grown from an idea into a real, physical space.

The mission remains the same: to provide a stage for artists—especially immigrant, marginalized, and underrepresented voices—who have struggled to find opportunities to share their work. At Impossible Stage, we host our own curated performances, exhibitions, and gatherings that bring the community together around art.

In addition, the space is available for rehearsals, workshops, and meetings. It is not a general event rental venue, but a shared creative home meant to nurture practice, collaboration, and growth.
