George McGlynn: Reflections of Light
A Fundraising Exhibition in Honor of the Artist and in Support of the Arts
Diaspora Arts Connection is proud to present George McGlynn: Reflections of Light, a special fundraising exhibition celebrating the life, work, and artistic legacy of George McGlynn. Held at Impossible Stage in Berkeley, the exhibition features a collection of original paintings generously donated by the artist’s family in support of Diaspora Arts Connection’s cultural programs and community-based arts initiatives.
This exhibition is both a celebration of an artist’s creative legacy and an invitation to invest in the future of arts and culture in our communities. Through the generosity of the McGlynn family, these works now continue their journey by supporting the mission of Diaspora Arts Connection — helping sustain programming that uplifts artists, builds cultural understanding, and creates spaces for meaningful connection through the arts.
About the Artist
George McGlynn was a self-taught painter whose work reflects a deep sensitivity to light, atmosphere, and place. Inspired by Impressionist traditions, he developed a personal style characterized by luminous color, textured brushwork, and expressive compositions.
His paintings often capture landscapes, waterways, architecture, and everyday scenes with warmth and movement, inviting viewers into moments of reflection and discovery. Influenced by travel and observation, McGlynn approached painting with curiosity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for beauty and human connection.
Though professionally accomplished in academia, he remained deeply devoted to painting as an enduring creative practice. This exhibition honors his artistic spirit and ensures that his work continues to inspire new audiences while supporting future generations of artists and cultural programming through Diaspora Arts Connection.
Supporting the Work of Diaspora Arts Connection
For over 15 years, Diaspora Arts Connection has created dynamic cultural programming that brings communities together through music, storytelling, visual arts, performance, and cross-cultural exchange. Since its founding, DAC has presented more than 400 events and supported the work of over 2,000 artists from around the world and across the Bay Area.
From intimate performances and interdisciplinary collaborations to community festivals and artist showcases, DAC has remained committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and creating platforms where artists and audiences can connect across cultures and experiences.
Among its signature initiatives is Let Her Sing, DAC’s long-running series celebrating the female voice through music and performance, which has brought artists and audiences together for more than a decade. DAC continues to develop and support programs that nurture creativity, preserve cultural traditions, and strengthen community through the arts.
By attending this exhibition, purchasing artwork, making a contribution, or simply helping spread the word, you directly support the continuation of these vital artistic and cultural initiatives. Your support helps DAC continue creating opportunities for artists, fostering cultural dialogue, and building meaningful community through the arts.
