Marjan Vahdat & Sahba Motallebi

  • Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison Street Berkeley, CA, 94704 United States (map)

Co-presented by Diaspora Arts Connection & Freight & Salvage

Join us for a powerful evening of music, poetry, and cultural expression featuring two internationally acclaimed artists, Marjan Vahdat and Sahba Motallebi.

Rooted in Persian classical and regional traditions while shaped by contemporary expression, their collaboration creates a deeply immersive musical experience. Drawing on the poetry of Hafez, Rumi, and Forough Farrokhzad, the program weaves together voice, instrumentation, and storytelling into a rich and evocative journey.

Marjan Vahdat, one of the most celebrated voices of Persian music in the diaspora, brings a vocal style grounded in classical and folk traditions yet resonant with modern sensibilities. Sahba Motallebi, a Grammy Award–winning tar virtuoso, is known for her expressive depth and ability to transform sound into an emotional and spiritual experience.

Joined by percussionist Nariman Asadi on tombak and daf, the ensemble creates a dynamic and intimate sonic landscape that bridges tradition and innovation.

This special performance is presented in partnership with Diaspora Arts Connection as part of our ongoing commitment to uplifting Iranian artists and sharing the richness of Persian musical heritage with wider audiences.
